This is how to register:

Children whose primary residence is in Graz can be pre-registered online. Here you can name the SmartCity Primary School and two further schools of your choice in which one must be in the immediate proximity (radius of 1.500m) from the home address.
Before Christmas the ABI will inform you per email whether you can enrol your child in the SmartCity Primary School.

Before the enrollment day you will be informed as to whether your child will be accepted into the Smart City Primary School. You will receive a letter to this affect with all the information and dates concerning the enrollment. Necessary Documents

When you come together with your child to the enrolment, you must bring the following documents:

Proof of Address
Birth Certificate
Proof of Denomination (e.g. Baptismal Certificate)
Proof of Citizenship or Child’s Passport or Parents’ Passport
Child’s E-Card
vaccination passport
Pupil’s Registration Paper, provided your child wasn’t pre-registered online
Protocol of the development discussion of the last obligatory kindergarten year

Online Pre-registration

Before enrollment in January you should definitely pre-register your child already in the November of the previous year. You can also make known at the online pre-registration what after-school care you require

How does the Online Pre-Registration function?
You have the possibility to complete the online pre-registration from the comfort of your home or go personally to the ABI-Service, ground floor, Keesgasse 6, 8010 Graz.

At the pre-registration name the three schools of your choice. One of the schools must be in the immediate proximity of your domicile.

Information on Day Care & Registration

Tagesbetreuung Volksschule Allgemeine Informationen:

In addition to supervision during lunch, the program also includes supervision of the children during their free time in the afternoon. The program primarily features activities that are fun and encourage the children’s enjoyment of physical activity, creativity, and social interaction.
In addition, the schools offer other programs run by external clubs with various focuses (e.g., theater, English, sports, etc.).

Care period: 1–5 days, depending on the location, until 6:00 p.m. at the latest.

Schools offer various types of after-school care:

Full-day school with an interleaved schedule
An interleaved schedule means that learning and recreational activities are spread out throughout the day and take place alternately. This means your child must be at school from the start of classes until at least 4:00 p.m. and be enrolled in after-school care for 5 days.
Full-day school with a split schedule
The split schedule includes classes in the morning, followed by lunch, and in the afternoon, the schedule includes study and recreational periods. The study periods are led by the school’s teaching staff. As a general rule, attendance is required until at least 4:00 p.m.

If your child participates in an extracurricular activity (such as music lessons or sports classes), they can be picked up after class. Early pickup must be arranged in writing with the school.

Registration for after-school care will take place from
January 25 through 29, 2027, for elementary schools through the City of Graz’s ABI Service.

Please note: The registration system has changed!
If you have registered your child for the current 2026–27 school year, your child will be guaranteed a spot through the end of the 4th grade of elementary school or the end of the 4th grade of middle school. You do not need to re-register.

After you sign up, ABI Service will send you an email informing you of your monthly costs.
